Day 3: Traditions?

They say at Texas A&M "If it happens twice, it's a tradition". Since it's my second full day here, anything that happened the same as yesterday must be the way things are, by that standard. Either way, things are becoming comfortable.

The first part of the day was a meeting at the state special education offices, where we presented ourselves and learned about Mexico's services and shared what we do, in hopes that our goals of doing real field work would be realized. Then to language class for some intense discussion on the rights of the indigenous, home for lunch, and then a few of us took our first trip to a market. The fruits and food looked and smelled amazing, but we were way too full to try any on this trip. The clothes and other items.. not so impressive. After a vibrant lecture and discussion on Mexican history, we went for churros, and while part of the group went to look for a bar my tired body decided to come home and sleep early. Tomorrow is my first visit to a Mexican school, which should be a great experience.

Today's menu, which I may stop posting if it becomes repetitive:
Breakfast: Zucaritas, aka Frosted Flakes, canteloupe, apple juice (which was so much thicker and more flavorful than American juice)
Lunch: Rice with fried egg, chicken with mole, guayaba, lime juice
Snacks/Other: Pan dulces, horchata, chocolates (including a "nun's fart") and rose petals covered in sugar from El Palacio del Chocolate, churro with strawberry filling, hot chocolate

And the good group pictures were taken by others today, but I leave you with a photo I took walking today.
