Day 4: Lisa, meet Montezuma

I don't know what I did to Montezuma, but he sure is having his revenge. But I don't want to write about that. And no one wants to read about it.

Today was, theoretically, the first day of our regular schedule, where the morning is spent at a school and the afternoon is spent learning about culture. So I started off the morning going across Queretaro to a private bilingual school that has started inclusion. I learned two things on that drive- the Queretaro that is not in downtown where I am is not nearly as pretty (but is interesting, just not as pretty. It's like comparing the parts of, say, San Francisco), and that in Mexico a temple can turn up anywhere, as you can see below.

It was fun being at the school. Today we just observed- I spent most of my day with 5th graders, listening to them discuss issues relating to geography and social studies. I was really impressed with the critical thinking being asked of the children, and I got to know them a little bit. I also observed a first grade class to see how they included a boy with Down's syndrome, and from what I saw was touched at how much he was loved and cared for by the children and teacher. We will go back twice to help the school with inclusion and any other concerns that come up.

As I stated, it was a normal day in theory. Our afternoon meeting at the university was canceled, so instead we took a tour of the nearby church, then went to a shopping center. The Templo de la Cruz was amazing in its architecture and history, and I took dozens of photos, but of course will only share my favorites below.

Tomorrow I will visit a special education school, tour churches, and hope that Montezuma has mercy on my soul.
