As I sit here in my bed, I can smell Mexico, and I know these smells. I think it is the cooking food from the houses, or the street vendors, or both, but as soon as I stepped out of our bus at the school where we met our host families, I knew this smell. I am not sure if I am remembering Mexico from when I was 13 and spent a week in Hermosillo with my host family, or if it's just the same as one of my homes in Belize when I was in the Peace Corps. But it's comforting that it's so familiar. Also, when I got my host family's address I had mapped it on Google and seen the street view. Sure enough, we drove up to it exactly the way Google had approached it, so it was like I had been here before, but never had.
My family is very kind and caring, and was understanding that I am very tired from two very long days and needed to rest. My room is a separate apartment, really, with its own entrance. I feel like I'm in a treehouse- in the morning when I can take a picture of the spiral staircase it will be clear why. Below is a photo of the inside.
Two more notes before I go to sleep. First, I am only going to post a sample of my photos here. The entire collection will be here
Second, the internet adjusts based on your country- I am now getting Yahoo! Mexico, and my blog's options started out in Spanish. Wonder how many sites that will apply to.
Time to rest. I plan on posting daily before bedtime. Buenas noches.
